English Language Education– ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students)

ELICOS programs in Australia offer many options for students with different English learning goals.

Students aim to achieve a level of English that allows them to communicate comfortably in everyday life and use it in their education and work life.

The main types of programs under ELICOS:

• General English
Focuses on developing daily speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Suitable for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced students.

• Exam Preparation Programs (IELTS, Cambridge FCE, and CAE)
Designed for students who want to prepare for exams such as IELTS, Cambridge FCE, and CAE. These programs focus on the exam format, question types, and exam strategies.

• English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
Suitable for students planning to pursue university or graduate education. Skills needed in a university environment, such as academic reading, essay writing, presenting, and note-taking, are prioritized. Many students transition to undergraduate or graduate programs after successfully completing the EAP program.

Program durations typically range from a few weeks to 6 to 12 months. Students begin their education in a class appropriate for their level, from beginner to advanced.

Average weekly fees for language training range from $270 to $350 AUD. These prices may vary depending on the city where the school is located, the institution, and seasonal promotions. Installment payment options may also be available depending on the total duration of the training.

When studying English on a student visa in Australia, the vast majority of programs are full-time. The weekly study load is typically at least 20 hours of class time. Schools take regular attendance, and in most cases, students are expected to achieve at least an 80% attendance rate to successfully complete their program. Attendance is important both in terms of current visa conditions and for any future education and visa applications.

International students in Australia have the right to work to a certain extent during their education under visa conditions. This allows them to practice their language skills and gain firsthand experience of working life.
